| America that
island off the coast of France
I am just finishing a new book of poems America that island off the coast of France. These are poems about my birth in France and my conflicts about becoming/being American. Finished poems from this collection have already been published in the Crab Orchard Review, the Denver Quarterly, Field, Hayden’s Ferry, the Malahat Review, the New England Review, Prairie Schooner, Quarterly West, the Southern Poetry Review, and the Southern Review among other magazines. Here are two poems from the book.
My current project is a book of poems, Extranjera / Stranger, about Uruguay. I spent my sabbatical year, 2010-2011, in Uruguay and became deeply attached to this country of 3.3 million people. I have been returning to Uruguay as often as I can. I am writing the poems in Spanish, then translating them into English for publication in bilingual format. Poems have appeared in Bosque, Mantis, Tabula Poetica, Revolution House, Prairie Schooner, and the Los Angeles Review. You can read four of the poems at Hinchas de Poesía: a Digital Codex of Contemporary Pan-American Poetry. You can also read my long poem "Torres/ Towers" at la fovea.
